How to Check AC Pressures at your House

One of the most important tasks of an air conditioning repair tech here in Bedford TX, is to know how to check AC pressures and refrigerant levels of their customers HVAC unit.

Before you check your refrigerant levels, be sure that your air conditioning system has been maintained or serviced by a professional. Filthy filters and dirty coils can greatly affect the reading on your gauges when testing freon levels

Every air conditioning technician in Texas knows how important it is to have the right tools for the job. When it comes to purchasing the right set of gauges, there many quality companies to choose from. Personally, I recommend that a technician has a set of digital gauges and analogue. Digital gauges have many great features and can provide great efficiency to the job. My preference is the Fieldpiece SMAN manifold. This company has really led the way in HVAC technology. The SMAN has the options to select many types of refrigerants and calculate the subcooling and superheat temperatures. With their built in clamps, the AC technician can also easily ready the temperatures on the suction and liquid line. Furthermore, Fieldpiece features wireless technology that can communicate with other instruments. If you want to learn how to check ac pressures the easy way, purchase this set and you can be like the pros.

My second set of gauges are my Yellow Jacket manifold. These are my manifold gauges that quickly tell me what I need to know. They cost much less than the digital gauges and have less features but they provide as an excellent back up and are always reliable.

As the video demonstrates, check the data plate on the air conditioner to determine what refrigerant type you will be measuring. On a residential air conditioning unit in Bedford, you will see ether R22 or R410. The R410 refrigerant pressures will read much higher than R22. If it is cold outside, your refrigerant levels will be much lower.
